ARTIST'S STATEMENT

In my work I am interested in the subversion of popular Icons. By taking vintage cartoons from the 30’s and 40’s and placing them in a nefarious field of abstract paint, my work explores recognizable icons in unfamiliar situations as social commentary.


BIOGRAPHY

Originally from California and raised throughout the U.S., Travis Frazelle now lives in Brooklyn NY and has worked as a studio assistant and painter for artists David Salle and Jeff Koons. After graduating from The Art Institute of Chicago with a BFA in 1996, he continued to study painting at The School of Representational Art in Chicago, from which he graduated in 2000. IN 2001 he moved to New York to pursue a career in art and for the past 7 years has been a working artist in New York City.
